Trustee Laura Symon has devoted her professional career to public education.  She has twenty years of experience as a primary classroom teacher, literacy specialist, and English Language Development (ELD)  teacher in the Woodside and San Francisco school districts. 

Laura holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from the University of Colorado at Boulder, a Master of Arts degree in Education with an emphasis in Literacy and Language Acquisition from San Francisco State University, a Literacy Specialist Credential, and a Multiple Subject Credential. She has served on numerous district committees and is well-versed in a variety of curricula and assessments. 

In 2018 Laura, her husband Scott, and two children relocated to St. Helena from Portola Valley. Over the past few years, Laura has enjoyed becoming better acquainted with the district by volunteering in her children’s classrooms and serving as a grade representative and co-secretary for the PTG.  Also, she is currently serving a second term as a board member of the Friends & Foundation, St. Helena Public Library.

Laura is honored to be appointed to the school board. She is deeply committed to supporting the students, families, teachers, and staff, and continuing the trajectory of excellence for all students.
