Sonny Calder, Student Board Representative for 2024-2025

Sonny Calder is a Saint Helena High School senior serving her first year as a school board representative. Sonny joined the SHUSD family in her freshman year of high school and has never looked back. Throughout her career at SHHS, Sonny has discovered her passion for advocating for others and hopes to use her new position as an avenue for positive change for her peers and her community. She cares deeply about her fellow students at SHUSD, and is adamant on taking the initiative to stand up for the underrepresented voices of her student body. Outside of the position, Sonny spends her time devoted to her academics, writing for the St. Helena Star, and working part time in the restaurant industry. During the summer, Sonny loves to work with kids as a volunteer camp counselor. Sonny is a motivated and articulate individual, and most importantly, she understands the vitality of kindness and its rightful place within our schools. Sonny plans on studying political science at a four-year university after she graduates in 2025. She hopes to eventually obtain a position in government, particularly in foreign service, where she believes her writing and speaking skills will give her the ability to fight on behalf of disadvantaged individuals.
