  • SHUSD Landscaping During the Drought

Fields, lawns and other landscaped areas on school district property may become brown due to a planned decrease in irrigation. We are decreasing irrigation to conserve water during the ongoing “Phase II” water emergency within the City of St. Helena.
Robert Louis Stevenson Middle School (RLS) will be impacted the most because the grounds are irrigated with water from the Lower Reservoir, which has been closed until reservoir levels recover. District staff is working to restore irrigation at RLS using City water within conservation limits, which may take several weeks due to equipment issues. Staff will mow and remove the brown brush to avoid fire hazards and reseed when water is restored.
SHUSD is also helping to conserve water in other ways, such as monitoring meters and checking our irrigation system for leaks.
SHUSD joins the rest of the St. Helena community in its collective efforts to protect the environment and preserve water - one of our most precious resources.
